All about SD Card Readers

SD Card Readers are the device that are used to access or read the data from Secure Digital Cards or SD Cards. SD Cards are the portable flash memory used in smaller devices.  
SD Cards used as SD format, which was developed by Toshiba, San Disk and Matushita for the use in portable devices. But today, it is widely used in digital camcorders, handheld computers, smart phones, media players, mobile phones, PDAs GPS receivers, video games and digital cameras etc. The SD file format is copy righted and patented by the San Disk.   
SD cards are great way to store and transfer the data and music. SD Cards are available every where in consumer electronics world. SD Cards also has got a lock , which when slided allows only for the Read only. It gives the data protection from the accidental overwright.  
SD Card Readers has the standard slot size , which has the dimenion of  32 mm × 24 mm × 2.1 mm usually. SD Cards also comes in the various size & formats depending upon its purpose. There are types of SD cards like Micro SD & Mini SD. Standard SD Card reader slots cannot read Micro SD or Mini SD Cards because of its slot size.  
SD Card Readers also can support standard thin MMC Card (Multi meida cards), as SD Cards were developed by keeping MMC format as the base.  
Like all other storage technologies, SD memory cards capacities are increasing day by day with the reduction in the cost every year.
